Gods and Goddesses

Here was a school project that the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge for the Cricut came in super handy for. One of my kids needed to do some kind of shadow-box gods and goddesses display. Thank goodness he was familiar with all of these through the Percy Jackson series so he knew just how he wanted them all to look. He actually did a lot of the work himself and it's still one of my favorite school projects.

Thick and Thin

I still love my Cricut even though everyone I know is getting a Silhouette. Here is one of my first projects I did when I learned how to do "weeding" without too much trouble. I love that tiles are so cheap at the big hardware stores!

Healthy Times

This was my lunch from back when I was eating pretty healthy--a homemade whole wheat tortilla with black beans, chicken, hummus and snap peas. And it was actually yummy too. I need to start doing this again. Today was a giant pretzel with nacho cheese sauce...how the mighty have fallen. :-)

Out of this world

This is been a really fun night going back through all my photos. I might have to stop today after this one. My son was supposed to do a 3D project for science at some point and all I could think about was Jello. Was I hungry? Maybe. But Jello is not that exciting--At least not until you make it glow in the dark! That's right--thanks to the internet I discovered that tonic water glows under ultraviolet light (so not exactly glow in the dark but you know what I mean) because of the quinine in it and I know people use other liquids to make Jello so we used tonic water. We made a bunch of different colors of it and put blobs of it on pieces of white cardstock (that definitely helped it show up better) on top of a pan of dark (grape?) Jello. Now that I've said the word Jello this many times I think a previous post about "there's always room for pudding..." should have been about "jello", not "pudding" but what the hey. I'm not a genius. Except for this project. Do you like my pecan asteroid belt? I he got a 100 thank goodness or I he would have been very upset. :)

Cutest Halloween decorations ever

Going back through more photos from the past I came across this adorable idea for Halloween. I took the picture of this from a library book a long time ago but have no idea what book it was or how to do these. Pretty lame of me but maybe someone will be able to tell me and then we can all go buy whatever book this is from and do this!

Christmas Tree O Christmas Tree

Most people aren't thinking about Christmas in February but I finally have time to collect the things I saw this past Christmas that I want to try out this coming Christmas--this tree is on the top of my list! I have no idea who exactly is responsible for this but I took a picture of it with my phone at a church nativity night. Thankfully my tree isn't that big so I won't need as many ornaments and now I'm wondering if you could do this with colored lights too? Hmm...

Girl can crochet!

Although I crochet too, I love to find other people who share my same interests. And how gorgeous is this heirloom baby blanket? I don't think I'll ever have the patience to put together something like that! This lady's Etsy shop is SMartPotter.

Girl can sew!

I'm going to use my blog to show off some other Etsy shop owners too because there are some seriously talented people out there. Although these adorable purse and coin purse sets aren't currently on her Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/BabsBitsandBobs (there are a couple similar ones up), this lady makes some awesome stuff. My girls are lucky to have gotten these as gifts from the owner and the journal below too.

There is NOT always room for pudding

I need to make sure I rememeber never to do this again. For one of my daughter's birthdays a couple years ago I got the bright idea to use pudding in the middle to stack the two cake circles rather than frosting. I've seen so many cake mixes claim to have pudding in them so it just seemed like it would be the yummiest thing ever to have real pudding right smack in the middle of the cake. Well, I don't have enough experience with pudding other than eating it--maybe if I'd wrestled in it I would have known--but pudding is REALLY slippery. It might be why we serve people pudding in bowls and not on plates but I didn't think that hard. I plopped the pudding on the first layer, smoothed it out, added the top cake layer and started to frost the outside of the cake. And that's when it started slipping and sliding. And the top layer of cake starting cracking. Like San Andreas Fault-cracking. I have a picture of it somewhere but if I remember right it ended up being okay because it was a ladybug cake so having a huge crack down the middle was okay and easily fillable with frosting. But I have to remember that there is definitely NOT always room for pudding...

In the Beginning

I am starting this blog to get some more interest in my Etsy shop-- Egglintine-- but also to put some things on the web that I've done or seen so I can get them on to Pinterest. I did this camp cake several years ago for a scout dinner. I used two 13x9 inch cakes for the base and stacked them together. Then the rest was SO easy. I had just been introduced to those candies that look like rocks (they had them a Walmart at the time) because a friend of mine brought me some when I had kidney stones to show me that all stones weren't bad--some are chocolate! The rocks were great for the fire pit, river bank, etc.Stick pretzels made great logs for the fire and to hold up the pop-tart tent. I used two sugar ice cream cones for the trees, some red, yellow and orange fruit rollups for the flames and some kind of candy bars for the logs--it's been too long so I can't be real specific there. Most likely there's a 3 Musketeers in there because those are the best! Ok, now in the shot below, the one log looks like a Twix. Those are good too. And let's just be honest--I've never had a candy bar I didn't like. Add a bunch of green frosting and a little bit of blue for a river (or lake if you prefer) and you have a really easy "theme" cake for a birthday or summertime bbq or just whatever.
 Now I'm hungry.
